Host a table
How to host a language table.
A table is a small group practising languages over a coffee. Members host them, you do not need to be fluent, and hosting is free.
- Pick a café or pub you like. Somewhere public with space for 4 to 6 people and a bit of background noise. Quiet weekday mornings and Saturday late mornings work well.
- Choose one or two languages. A table with one main language, plus English as the bridge, keeps conversation easy. Say the level you expect, such as "all levels".
- Book it in the app. Add the venue, time and number of places. We list it on the public page so people can find and book it. It takes about a minute.
- Welcome people and set the pace. Say hello at the door, introduce people, and tell the group the plan: half an hour in each language, then swap.
- Keep it fair and kind. Invite quieter people in, keep corrections gentle, and agree that mistakes are the point. Everyone pays for their own drink.
Conversation starters
Keep a few ready for the first quiet minute.
- What did you do last weekend?
- What is the best meal you have eaten this year?
- Where would you go if you had a free week?
- What is a word in your language that English does not have?
- What are you learning this language for?
