Nearly Fluent
Sign inFree language exchange in London
Practising a language in London does not need to cost anything. A language exchange is a swap, not a service: you help someone with your language and they help you with theirs.
What free means here
Nearly Fluent is free to join and free to use. There is no subscription. At a language table you pay for your own drink, the same as anywhere else.
Ways to practise
- One to one. Find a member near you who speaks what you are learning and is learning what you speak. Say hello and agree a time for a coffee.
- Small tables. Join a table of around four to six people, hosted by a member.
- Host your own. Pick a café, a day and a language, and let others book. Our host guide has the steps.
Choosing a partner
Look at the languages and levels on each profile. Match on levels where you can, but a friendly mismatch works too: the more advanced speaker slows down, and the beginner learns faster.
Making it stick
- Meet at the same time each week if you can.
- Agree the plan before you start, such as half an hour in each language.
- Keep a note of new words.
